Singin' & Singin' Recieves 2009 Classroom of the Future Impact Award

Singin’ & Signin’ received the 2009 Impact Award for Classroom of the Future on Thursday, May 14, 2009, in a celebration aboard the USS Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum in San Diego, California. Four awards were presented: The Inspire Award, The Innovate Award, The Achieve Award, and the Impact Award, which is a Best‐Of‐Show Award encompassing all three awards, and is given to one program that best embodies all three attributes: inspire, innovate, and achieve.

The Classroom of the Future Foundation recognized Singin’ & Signin’ as an innovative math program, truly impacting students. Through easily recalled childhood songs and chants, the program teaches complex concepts using accompanying signs and gestures that easily
adapts to any curriculum.

Through Singin’ & Signin’s partnership with RM Educational Software, Inc., the program is now available in RM Easiteach format, an interactive technology, which is part of RM’s award winning family of whole‐class tools.

Siegrid Stillman, co‐founder of Singin’ & Signin’, explained, “Singin’ & Signin’ changed the way I teach math. I always knew I was a good teacher, but when my students would receive their state assessment scores, they were often lower than I had expected, so my teaching partner [Ken Ostroske] and I created Singin’ & Signin’.”

When reporting the four‐year outcome data, Kristi Frisbie, Managing Director of Singin’ & Signin’, said, “I think you'll find that Singin’ & Signin’ will change the way teachers teach math forever. It is so simple, yet revolutionary, because it teaches the way kids learn!”

About Singin’ & Signin’: Singin’ & Signin’ began as a program in 2004 for sixth grade classrooms. After three years of research, a company named Singin’ & Signin’ LLC launched its program nationwide, headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The founders remain sixth grade teachers in San Diego County, California. Learn more at www.rmeducation.com/nickynote+

GLOW, Scotland's National Education Intranet delivered by RM, Receives Highest Honors at 2009 Global Learning Impact Awards

The IMS Global Learning Consortium (IMS GLC) today announced the results of the world’s annual competition of high impact use of technology to support and enhance learning. Glow, the world's first national intranet for education, comes out on top receiving the highly distinguished platinum award.

Managed by Learning and Teaching Scotland and delivered by Research Machines (RM), Glow is the world's first national intranet for education. Preparation for Glow began with phase zero, which involved checking that Glow could use existing data, provided by local authorities, to automatically create the anticipated 800,000 accounts. Glow was then piloted over a number of stages, all of which introduced new components. Feedback was then taken from the 13 local authorities and 3000 users (made up of teachers, students and local authority staff) involved in piloting. This feedback led to further improvements and the launch of the full system at the Scottish Learning Festival in 2007. Since the rollout of the live service began in 2007, 16 out of the 32 Scottish local authorities are now live with Glow and numbers are rapidly continuing to rise. The central Glow team is working with local authorities to ensure Glow is rolled out in an appropriate manner tailored to the needs of each local authority. The main purpose of Glow is to enhance the quality of learning and teaching in the classroom by fully supporting the delivery of Curriculum for Excellence. Learn more about Glow at http://www.ltscotland.org.uk/.

The Learning Impact Awards (LIAs) recognize use of technology to improve learning across all education segments and in all regions of the world. The finalists were evaluated by an expert panel of judges and the attendees at the IMS annual Learning Impact conference and Summit on Global Learning Challenges. The Learning Impact conference brings together leaders from supplier, educational, and government organizations focused on improving access, affordability, and quality of education worldwide. This year’s conference featured record attendance of global leaders from 25 countries and six continents. The LIA awards are unique in that they recognize the use of technology in context. Nominations include not only information about the technology but how it is used by an education provider. In addition, the entries are evaluated according to eight criteria of impact, including improving access to learning, improving affordability of learning, and improving the quality of learning. Developed to increase student motivation and performance.
Single user licenses now available!

Hyannis, MA - April 9, 2009 - RM Education, the U.S. division of RM, a world-wide supplier of technology-based curriculum products for education, announced today the release of RM Math Player, their first interactive math curriculum program available for individual math teachers.

Now math teachers in grades 6 through 12 will have access to the same content found in the award-winning RM Math Framework Edition, but without the need or expense of purchasing licenses for the entire math department or school. RM Math Player is available for individual users, making it a very affordable option for bringing 21st century learning into the classroom. The curriculum is aligned to the standards of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) as well as state-based standards. Subjects include: Calculus, Algebra I & II, Geometry, Numbers and Operations; and the content is self-contained on easy-to-use CDs for both PC and MAC users.

“We have found that the introduction of interactive technology to the classroom can greatly benefit the understanding and retention of difficult math concepts.” said Kevin Pawsey, Chief Excecutive United States RM Education Software Inc. “RM Math Player enables teachers to deliver lessons that are exciting, fast-paced and speak to all student learning styles resulting in improved student performance and test scores. We also understand that not all schools have the budgets to support the installment of a school-wide interactive math application, which inspired us to develop a product that could be utilized by a single teacher vs. the entire school.”
